Instructor Information & Office Hours

Office Hours: W 8pm (MST)
 Instructor Information:
Greetings from Ammon, Idaho, a place in which I never would have imagined living!

I grew up in Vienna, Virginia, playing all those fun east coast sports like lacrosse and field hockey, as well as "normal" basketball, soccer, gymnastics, track and cross-country, with some piano, flute, and piccolo "playing" on the side. I was a writing nerd though, even attending writing camp at the University of Virginia.

After high school, I attended BYU-Provo, where I majored in History and minored in English. I served a mission in New York City, New York and returned to Provo. There, I taught missionaries in the MTC and met my sweetheart, Doug Bowen, who had just transferred from BYU-Idaho. He is the reason I'm in Ammon.

Since getting married, we have lived in Provo, Utah; Logan, Utah (where I taught English and got my Master's degree in Literature and Writing); Morgantown, West Virginia (where Doug spent his first two years of law school); Orem, Utah (so Doug could do his last year of law school at BYU); Pocatello, Idaho, where Doug served as a law clerk; and now Ammon, Idaho, where Doug is a lawyer and I get to teach from home!

Along the way, we incorporated some extra family members. We have a 6-year-old son named Isaac who is excited about everything on earth! He is in kindergarten, and loves reading Magic Treehouse chapter books and writing picture books. His dad is his soccer coach right now, and Isaac is working to develop "the eye of the tiger." 4-year-old Lucy is very cute, likes frosting cookies and having me paint her nails, loves to draw, and needs to play dress-up at least once a day. Brooklyn will turn two this semester, and is named in honor of the loving people of New York City. She is radiant. She is high-maintenance! She is a cyclone of mayhem and disaster, calling, "Beep! Beep!" as she moves past me to get in more trouble. She loves monkeys and bubbles. I feel like my toddler is probably harder than most kids, but I wouldn't trade any of my kids for perfect angels--that's how much I love them!

I am grateful to be your English teacher. I applied in October of 2009 and got the good news that I would get to teach for BYU-I a day before Thanksgiving that year. I feel like teaching has been a part of my life mission, and it has brought deep satisfaction. I love to write and read, to serve, to be in academia, and to work with students so that we can follow the spirit and reach our full potential. Welcome to class!
Here is a screencast for your viewing enjoyment, so you can see my family, where I work, and what I'm looking forward to this semester!
